All Saints’ Doohamlet National School had a special visitor on Monday September 5th as Ireland soccer manager Stephen Kenny arrived to meet the children.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions, the FAI could not run its annual primary schools 5-aside tournament. As a result, schools were asked to play 5 aside games in school. When this opportunity arose, All Saints’ NS decided to set up their own annual tournament, ‘The Lunchtime League’. This gives the children an opportunity to compete against each other on a daily basis from Easter to Summer. We submitted our entry to the FAI competition and we were delighted to learn that All Saints’ had been picked as the winner!
Initially, the prize was a Zoom call with the children. However, Stephen was so impressed with the entry that he wanted to come and visit the children in person. It was a wonderful day with the sun shining down on us. The children asked questions, sang songs and got photographs taken. We would like to thank all involved in its organisation both in the school and within the FAI. It was an experience that the staff and children will never forget.
