Virtual Sports Day!
The Summer Term is usually spent preparing for one of the biggest events on the school calendar – our annual school Sports Day. Despite these challenging times, this year will be no different. We have teamed up with Healthy Kidz to deliver what will be an exciting Sports Day, but in addition will provide the children with lots of time to prepare and practice the various activities. The ‘Virtual Sports Day’ will allow all the children to compete against each other as they normally would.
Healthy Kidz have developed an app to support the Sports Day. The app can be downloaded from the Apple and Google stores and your child will be given individual login details. Once you have logged in, the children can enjoy recording all levels of activity, from now until Sports Day on 13th June 2020. Whilst the primary focus is the build up to Sports Day, the greater ambition is to create a more engaging mind-set for all our children by allowing them to observe how active they are and strive to become more active, especially outside school.
Each week, between now and Sports Day, information regarding the different events can be found on the Healthy Kidz website and Youtube channel. This will allow the children to not only gain an understanding for the events, but give them the opportunity to practice all of the different events using the ‘Coaching Tips and Preparation advice’. Once the children have given each of the seven events a go, they will be asking you to pick their five favourites and complete them on Sports Day, recording their results in the Healthy Kidz App. Teachers will then be able to view all their results through an online dashboard.
In addition to the Virtual Sports Day and to help with preparations, Healthy Kidz have created a ’20 for 20 Challenge’. All the children have to do is record a 20-day streak on the Healthy Kidz App, which can include Sports Day Practice, Sport, Exercise, Healthy Eating or a Wellbeing activity.
If you or the children have any difficulty logging in, please email the Healthy Kidz Team (email@example.com) and they will endeavour to resolve this asap.
This is a new endeavour for us and we are learning about the Healthy Kidz app alongside you. Whilst we may not have all the answers, I have created a Frequently Asked Questions page to try to answer some of the queries you may have.
Please note, the children are not required to take part in the Virtual Sports Day or the Healthy Kidz app – as a staff we thought it might be a fun activity for them and so have registered all pupils but, their participation or not, is entirely parental choice. Opt in or out as you see fit.
Have fun everyone!
